Acceptable Use Policy

1. Introduction
This Acceptable Use Policy (“AUP”) governs your use of the OtterMate platform and services (the “Service”) provided by Otter Mate Inc. (“OtterMate,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This AUP is incorporated into and forms part of our Terms of Service.
By using our Service, you agree to comply with this AUP. Violation of this policy may result in suspension or termination of your account and may expose you to legal liability.
2. Purpose
OtterMate helps businesses and professionals automate their social media presence. To maintain a safe, legal, and respectful environment for all users and the broader community, we establish these guidelines for acceptable use.
3. Prohibited Content
You may not use our Service to create, store, transmit, or publish content that:
3.1 Illegal Content
- Violates any applicable local, state, national, or international law or regulation
- Promotes or facilitates illegal activities
- Constitutes, promotes, or provides instructions for securities fraud, pyramid schemes, or illegal financial activities
- Involves the sale or promotion of illegal drugs, weapons, or other contraband
- Contains child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or exploits minors in any way
CSAM Reporting Obligation: In compliance with federal law (18 U.S.C. § 2258A), OtterMate is required to report any apparent child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline. We will immediately report any such content discovered on our platform and cooperate fully with law enforcement investigations. Accounts involved in the distribution or possession of CSAM will be immediately terminated without prior notice.
3.2 Harmful or Abusive Content
- Promotes, glorifies, or incites violence against any individual or group
- Contains credible threats of physical harm
- Harasses, bullies, intimidates, or stalks any person
- Promotes self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders
- Contains graphic violence, gore, or gratuitously disturbing content
- Exploits or endangers minors
3.3 Hateful Content
- Promotes discrimination, hatred, or violence based on:
- Race, ethnicity, or national origin
- Religion or religious beliefs
- Gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation
- Disability or medical condition
- Age
- Veteran status
- Any other protected characteristic
- Uses slurs, dehumanizing language, or hate symbols
- Denies or trivializes well-documented historical atrocities
3.4 Sexually Explicit Content
- Contains pornography or sexually explicit material
- Promotes sexual services or solicitation
- Contains non-consensual intimate imagery (“revenge porn”)
- Sexualizes minors in any way
3.5 Deceptive Content
- Contains false or misleading information intended to deceive
- Impersonates another person, brand, or organization without authorization
- Uses fake testimonials, reviews, or endorsements
- Promotes scams, phishing, or fraudulent schemes
- Spreads known disinformation or misinformation about public health, elections, or emergencies
- Uses misleading metadata, hashtags, or descriptions to deceive
3.6 Infringing Content
- Infringes on copyrights, trademarks, patents, or other intellectual property rights
- Uses content without required licenses or permissions
- Violates the right of publicity or privacy of any person
- Contains trade secrets or confidential information of third parties
3.7 Spam and Manipulative Content
- Bulk unsolicited messages or advertisements
- Content designed to artificially inflate engagement metrics
- Fake accounts, followers, or engagement
- Coordinated inauthentic behavior or manipulation campaigns
- Chain letters, pyramid schemes, or multi-level marketing spam
3.8 Malicious Content
- Contains viruses, malware, spyware, or other malicious code
- Attempts to phish, harvest credentials, or steal personal information
- Links to malicious websites or downloads
- Attempts to exploit security vulnerabilities
4. Prohibited Activities
You may not use our Service to:
4.1 System Abuse
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users’ accounts
- Probe, scan, or test vulnerabilities without authorization
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or connected networks
- Circumvent usage limits, rate limits, or access restrictions
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
- Use automated tools to access the Service except as expressly permitted
- Overload, flood, or crash our infrastructure
4.2 Account Abuse
- Create multiple accounts to evade restrictions or bans
- Share account credentials with unauthorized parties
- Sell, transfer, or sublicense your account
- Use another person’s account without authorization
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation
4.3 Platform Abuse
- Use the Service to violate the terms of connected social media platforms
- Attempt to manipulate or game platform algorithms
- Engage in coordinated inauthentic behavior across platforms
- Use the Service for purposes other than legitimate business social media management
- Exploit the Service for competitive intelligence gathering
4.4 Data Abuse
- Collect, store, or use personal data of others without proper consent
- Scrape or harvest data from the Service or connected platforms
- Use the Service to build competing products
- Share or sell data obtained through the Service
4.5 Commercial Abuse
- Resell or redistribute the Service without authorization
- Use the Service to send spam or unsolicited commercial messages
- Conduct activities that could harm OtterMate’s reputation
- Use the Service in violation of export control laws
5. Platform Compliance
When using OtterMate to post to third-party social media platforms, you must comply with each platform’s policies:
5.1 General Platform Requirements
You agree to:
- Read and follow each platform’s terms of service and community guidelines
- Only connect accounts you own or have explicit authorization to manage
- Not use our Service to violate any platform’s policies
- Accept that platforms may remove content or restrict accounts at their discretion
- Understand that OtterMate is not responsible for platform enforcement actions
5.2 Platform-Specific Guidelines
Meta (Facebook/Instagram):
- Follow Meta’s Community Standards and Commerce Policies
- Do not use OtterMate to post prohibited content categories
- Respect advertising and disclosure requirements
LinkedIn:
- Follow LinkedIn’s Professional Community Policies
- Maintain professional, appropriate content
- Do not use for recruiting spam or mass outreach
YouTube:
- Follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines
- Respect copyright and fair use
- Comply with disclosure requirements for sponsored content
TikTok:
- Follow TikTok’s Community Guidelines
- Approve all posts manually in the TikTok app as required
- Do not post content inappropriate for younger audiences
Pinterest:
- Follow Pinterest’s Community Guidelines
- Post authentic, non-deceptive content
- Do not use prohibited hashtag practices
Bluesky:
- Follow Bluesky’s Community Guidelines
- Respect the platform’s decentralized ethos
- Do not engage in coordinated harassment
6. AI Content Guidelines
When using OtterMate’s AI features to generate content:
6.1 Your Responsibilities
- Review all AI-generated content before posting
- Verify accuracy of facts, claims, and statistics
- Edit content to ensure it matches your brand voice and standards
- Do not rely solely on AI for compliance with laws or platform policies
- Take responsibility for all content posted through your account, regardless of AI involvement
6.2 AI Limitations
AI-generated content may:
- Contain inaccuracies or outdated information
- Not fully align with your brand voice initially
- Require editing for tone, style, or context
- Generate inappropriate suggestions in rare cases
You must not post AI-generated content without review.
6.3 AI Provider Policies
Our AI features are subject to the acceptable use policies of our AI providers (Anthropic, Google, OpenAI). We may refuse to process requests that violate these policies.
7. Industry-Specific Guidelines
Certain industries have additional legal and ethical requirements:
7.1 Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals
- Do not make unsubstantiated health claims
- Comply with FDA advertising regulations
- Include required disclosures for pharmaceutical content
- Do not provide medical advice
7.2 Financial Services
- Comply with SEC, FINRA, and FTC regulations
- Include required disclaimers for investment content
- Do not make guarantees of returns or performance
- Maintain appropriate records as required
7.3 Legal Services
- Follow bar association advertising rules
- Include required disclaimers
- Do not create attorney-client relationships through social media
7.4 Alcohol and Cannabis
- Follow age-gating requirements
- Comply with state and federal advertising restrictions
- Do not target minors
7.5 Political and Advocacy
- Comply with campaign finance disclosure requirements
- Follow platform-specific political advertising policies
- Include required “paid for by” disclosures
8. Disclosure Requirements
8.1 Sponsored Content
If you post sponsored or paid content:
- Follow FTC guidelines for endorsement disclosures
- Use clear disclosure language (#ad, #sponsored, “Paid partnership”)
- Ensure disclosures are prominent and not hidden
- Comply with platform-specific disclosure requirements
8.2 Affiliate Marketing
If your content includes affiliate links:
- Disclose the affiliate relationship
- Do not make misleading claims about products
- Follow FTC affiliate disclosure guidelines
8.3 AI-Generated Content Disclosure
Some jurisdictions and platforms may require disclosure of AI-generated content. You are responsible for understanding and complying with applicable disclosure requirements.
9. Enforcement
9.1 Monitoring
We may, but are not obligated to, monitor content and activity on our Service. We use a combination of automated systems and human review to detect potential violations.
9.2 Reporting Violations
If you become aware of content or activity that violates this AUP, please report it to:

9.3 Enforcement Actions
Violations may result in:

We reserve the right to take immediate action without warning for severe violations.
9.4 Appeals
If you believe enforcement action was taken in error, you may appeal by emailing c.bowden@ottermate.ai within 14 days. Include:
- Your account information
- The enforcement action taken
- Why you believe the action was in error
- Any supporting evidence
We will review appeals and respond within 30 days.
9.5 No Liability for Enforcement
We are not liable for any enforcement actions taken in good faith, including content removal, account suspension, or termination.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this AUP from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email and/or notice in the Service at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated AUP.
